Maryellen

am 55 years old and had
a left mastectomy in 10/01 followed by eight courses of A/C and four courses
of Taxol and then five weeks of radiation. Am now on tamoxifen for five
years. I had a 3A tumor (5.2 cm) with 2 out of 9 lymph nodes positive.
I was really scared at first, thinking I would die within a few months
or so as I knew someone who was diagnosed and died six months later although
that was was quite
a long time ago.
My last chemo was 05/02 and last radiation treatment was 07/03/02.
I went to a really good University Cancer Hospital and guess I did pretty
good during the chemo treatments. Everyone at the hospital was just fantastic.
I almost miss all the babying I got while going through the chemo - made
me feel safe. I exercised at least 45 minutes three to four times a week
during all of this and ate really well - very rarely any sweets or junk
food. I actually felt great except for the day of and a few days after
my treatments.
Now it is six months after last treatment and I am more tired than
when on treatments. I am wondering if the tamoxifen is making me so tired
sometimes. Also, I am so very, very, very thirsty all the time and have
gotten laryngitis twice because of it. Have been going for checkups and
so far, so good. My regular gynecologist wants me to have a hysterectomy
and so far I have said no. Maybe later, not ready for more surgery yet.
I babysit for my 3 year old grandson part time and will be babysitting
also for his new brother when he arrives either the end of January or
first of February. I quit my regular job and I LOVE babysitting!!! My
husband and children have been by my side through it all - would not
have known what to do without them. We were pretty close before but now
we are an even closer family. I do need to get back to eating better
again as I am starting to eat too many sweets again!!
